There's a residential recording studio in Tornillo, Texas called Sonic Ranch. It's on huge pecan ranch owned by a very wise and whimsical man named Tony Rancich. He's one of the most intrigueing people I know. Every time Tony gives tours of the ranch and studios, he points to the endless rows of pecan trees, smirks at himself, then tells the group, 'There are actually only 12 trees. The rest are mirrors.' In 2014, Tony saw me filming and recording a promotional video at Andy's, a bar I used to run sound at in Denton. He gave me his card and invited me to the ranch to record. After checking it out, I took him up on the offer. He flew me over a few times to meet and make demos with a few different producers. That's how I met my producer Stefano Vieni, and his BFF, co-producer, and engineer, Alex Ponce. During multiple trips to the ranch, we recorded about eight 'demos'(they were closer to full productions). Then I spent about two years waiting for something to happen for me. I didn't really know what to do so I did nothing which is not an effective career strategy. In 2015 I moved to Austin, put together a backing band that I love, and I looked back at these Sonic Ranch demos like, 'Hold up, these recordings are fire, why did I drop the ball?' So I hit up Fano(Stefano) like, 'Bro, I want to release these, would you help me finish them?' He's an angel straight out of Heaven, so of course he said yes. Last summer, I tracked drums(Fred Mandujano), electric guitar(Jacob Hildebrand), and bass(Justin Schneider) here in Austin, then went to Fano and Alex's studio in Mexico City to re-record vocals in between their scheduled sessions. We chose 'You Can Stay' as the first single, Alex mixed it, and Dave Donnelly, Fano's partner at KIVA Music, mastered it.
